Based in Dublin, JJ graduated from the National Film School of Ireland (IADT) in 2007 and has had a camera in his hand ever since.
Commercially JJ has worked with multiple production companies and creative agencies on broadcast and online campaigns. Clients include Tourism Ireland, Ford, Lidl, Aldi, Vodafone, Irish Rail, RTE, Bulmers, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Uber and many more.
JJ is best known for his work with director Dave Tynan. Together they have created multiple successful films. 'Just Saying' gained instant viral success and became a cultural touchpoint in 2012. 'Rockmount' which was awarded the Teirnan McBribe accolade at the Galway Film Fleadh, followed quickly by an IFTA in 2015 and "Heartbreak' which invited more viral attention and sparked intense cultural debate around women’s issues in Ireland in 2017. The film had people all over the country quoting Emmet Kirwan’s indelible rally cry for the nation to “stand in awe of all mná” and the work went on to credit the creative team with their second IFTA award.
Building on the creative relationship with Kirwan the pair have collaborated again for Tynan's debut feature, the much anticipated 'Dublin Oldschool' which completed photography in late 2017 and was released to critical acclaim in 2018. Following on from Dublin Oldschool JJ has collaborated with Ruth Meehan on Award Winning feature "The Brightside" and Rachel Carey’s IFTA Nominated "Deadly Cuts."
JJ’s TV drama credits include series 1 of “Harry Wild”, starring Jane Seymour. He recently shot “Witness No.3”, a new TV drama for Channel 5 which became a number one show for Netflix and shot series 3 of Treasure Entertainment/BBC Studios series “Smother” with director Dathai Keane who he worked with again on the series “Blackshore.” JJ was nominated for and IFTA for his work on series 2 of BRON studios/Headline Pictures TV drama “KIN”. He collaborated again with director Diarmuid Goggins on mini series “The Night Caller” which recieved much critical acclaim and has recently wrapped on Playground Pictures “The Hardacres” which was the first series of a period drama with JJ shooting both blocks with directors Rachel Carey and Kieron J Walsh.
